WHAT ARE PEPTIDES?
Peptides are chains of 2 or more amino acids that are the building blocks that create proteins. Peptides are closely related to protein. When peptides form a long chain of amino acids, they become proteins. When they are in a short chain of amino acids, they are able to penetrate the top layer of our skin and send signals to our cells to let them know how to function. Peptides and proteins are present in every living cell and are responsible for many biochemical activities including acting in
enzymes, hormones, antibiotics.
